Best time to visit Chikmagalur
September to May is the sweet spot. October–February brings misty Mullayanagiri sunrises; June–August turns every waterfall thunderous but makes 4x4 trails slippery. Carry a light jacket year-round — the peaks stay cool even in summer.
A perfect 2-day Chikmagalur itinerary
Day 1: Sunrise at Mullayanagiri, Seethalayanagiri viewpoint, lunch at town, evening at Hirekolale Lake, campfire at your estate stay. Day 2: 4x4 to Hebbe or Jhari Falls, Baba Budangiri shrine, coffee-estate walk, and a slow drive back through the ghats.
What to pack for the ghats
Good grip shoes for waterfall rocks, a rain layer in monsoon, motion-sickness tablets for winding roads, and cash for small estate stalls — UPI works in town but patchy on the peaks.
